As part of its 75th anniversary celebration, the DeKalb County Chamber of Commerce hosted a business forum at which four leaders in the business community discussed their thoughts on the business climate in Georgia and specifically in DeKalb County. Moderated by United Way of Greater Atlanta’s Yvette Cook, the panel included Craig Lesser, founder of Pendleton Group and former Georgia commissioner of economic development.

AdvancED taps Jacobs to head trustees

Jacques Couret – Atlanta Business ChronicleAdvancED named Phil Jacobs chairman of its board of trustees.Jacobs is a founding partner for Atlanta-based The Pendleton Consulting Group, an economic development consulting business. He also spent 34 years working for BellSouth/AT&T Inc. in various roles such as corporate officer, president of operations for BellSouth-Georgia, president of business services for AT&T Southeast and president of BellSouth business services.

AdvancED is the parent of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ Council on Accreditation and School Improvement. SACS several years ago forced Clayton County’s public schools and the Atlanta Public Schools high schools to shape up, or risk losing their accreditation. Then last December, it placed DeKalb County’s schools on probation through 2013.
